February 6, A note from Bridgewater Selectmen candidate Marilee Kenney Hunt

Marilee Kenney Hunt

Candidate for Bridgewater Board of Selectmen

I am writing in response to your article, College won’t take over B-R schools, Sunday February 3, 2008. Bridgewater Selectman Mark Oliari is quoted as saying, “Bridgewater State College could do a much better job of running the schools than a group of elected officials …” I respectfully note that elected School Committee members do not “run” the Bridgewater Raynham Regional School District. Like most schools, the district is run by trained educational-administrative professionals in accordance with the laws of our Commonwealth, specifically MGL Ch 71, Section 37.

Since he served several terms as an elected B-R Regional School Committee member and currently serves on the Bridgewater Board of Selectman, one is left to wonder whether Mr. Oliari questions his own competence as a leader.

As the Chair of Bridgewater’s Board of Selectman, Mr. Oliari recently worked to form a School Study Committee to study all issues regarding the School District. A similar Committee, which I chaired and on which Mr. Oliari served, created a similar report and presented its findings to the Board of Selectman and the town only 2.5 years ago. One should wonder about the need for a new committee. Did Mr. Oliari not like the findings of the first committee? Will Mr. Oliari continue to form new committees until one finally agrees with his opinions regarding the administration of the School District?
